Ukirk Journeying with young adults as we follow Christ

305 Locust Street
Ronceverte, West Virginia 24970

Whether your group is composed of youth, college students, or adults, we have workcamp projects waiting for you here in “Almost Heaven” West Virginia! Surrounded by natural beauty and the kindest people you’ll ever meet, we live in a rural, high-poverty area with tremendous needs.  A typical week at our workcamp includes multiple projects using a variety of skills.  You may mentor young children in literacy during the morning hours, volunteer at the animal shelter in the afternoon, and then do light home construction the following day.  Local agency partners include Wellspring of Greenbrier, the Family Refuge Center, the Lewisburg Children's Shelter, Open Doors, Greenbrier Animal Shelter, Organ Cave Community Center, Energy Express, Oakhurst Outreach, Child Youth & Advocacy Center, and many more. We assign projects based on need, so you may not know where you will be working until shortly before you arrive.  We also avail ourselves to new opportunities, so you may try something new!  For example, last summer one group created a video, logo, and website for a local children's organization! Our projects are not limited to construction and home repairs. We take seriously the call to care for all of God's creation. We offer reforestation projects, the harvesting of produce for local food pantries, and service to the local Animal Shelter.

We generally accept groups in June, July, & August. However, we also accept groups during the fall and spring as needed or during periods of natural disaster. During the summer, groups are encouraged to take one "fun" day to enjoy wild and wonderful West Virginia by kayaking, hiking, or whitewater rafting. We will gladly assist you in making these arrangements. Recreational opportunities include Ace Adventure ParkOrgan Cave, Ronceverte Island Park (walking distance from church), The Greenbrier Resort (watch New Orleans Saints training camp from late July to August), & more.

Groups stay at the church, which is newly renovated to include four showers, new bathrooms, a dishwasher, and a washer/dryer. We also have a full kitchen including two refrigerators, two stoves, microwaves, dishwasher, utensils, etc. While groups stay here, they have full and sole use of the kitchen facilities.  Please bring your own sleeping bag, cot, or air mattress. Multiple rooms allow privacy for sleeping as the group determines appropriate.  The total cost is $150/person for the week.  That covers your housing and workcamp supplies.  We also provide a welcome meal when you arrive.  Otherwise, you provide your own meals as needed.

We hope you will join us in Christ’s name for a summer of service!
